Okay fine, the above title may not be entirely true but adding a little credit to it – Something Relevant, the Jam Band that performed at Kala Ghoda Arts festival yesterday afternoon, mainly consists of some fine Parsi Dikaras.
Needless to say, these guys (Parsis + Non Parsis) completely rocked da house. And such was their impact that even my mum (a non-videshi music listener) sat thru most of their play time without any complaints.
In all honesty, I am not very fond of Jazz/Rock genre but give me Pop or R&B anytime and I am game. However this experience, I will admit made me realize how rigid in my music taste I had been all along.
So effortlessly they skipped between genres in a single song, something so very unique. No exaggeration here but really, in a span of 40 minutes or so – I had swayed to reggae, moving on to soft jazz, with a little bit of rap along with the regular rock stuff thrown in. In simple words their performance was “World Fusion” at its best.
And it was not only about music - in my opinion what gave an extra edge to STR’s performance, was their engaging interaction with the audience. Also the fact that it was not some foreign group but apna local band made the entire experience jump couple of notches higher, for me at least.
Overall a superb live-performance.
Hopefully in the coming years we will get to hear more of such talented Indian Bands and above all I sincerely wish, as true music lovers we will welcome them with open arms and the much deserved encouragement.
[Ps - Did I mention, STR’s lead singers are seriously hot!]
