@ Ravikumar,
We're glad.

@ Rheaa Rao,
Good luck with your writing.

@ Karishma,
Yes, I rather think we'll do it again. Next year, if not sooner. And thank you, thank you, thank you. :)

@ Abhinav
Thank you. And congratulations. Good luck with your book!

@ Cherian George Pulinthitta
Check out their websites. The smarter ones all tell you how they like their pitches cooked.

@ Saraana Rajman
Alas, no. What happens now is between the selected authors and the publishers and agents who picked them. Many of them—the authors, I mean—blog, so perhaps they will post updates and keep the world informed.

Have been following the Book Pitch contest with interest. But was wondering whether we woudl be seeing many updates of what happens now that there are official winners. What is going to happen now after they publishers evaluate the extracts? Will we get a peek there as well>

Hi. I am a full time Indian writer, resident in Buffalo, USA. This development of writers and publishing opportunities in India is terrifc news, though of course it had to happen, given the great talent pool on the subcontinent.

Any advice on how I might pitch my books to one of these (apparently very smart and knowlegeable) new agencies?

Thanks.

The Caferati Book Pitch 2008 contest has worked out far better than we could have hoped. First, we got all those big names to be scouts for this experiment. Then, we got 152 book pitches. And - this is the truly delightful part - 39 of those pitches are winners; i.e. they have at least one publisher or agent interested in taking things further.

So the contest stays for the next year and the years ahead right? I'll be ready with a manuscript the next year. And three cheers to Kala Ghoda Fest for the wonderful work! Not that I expected anything less. :-)

This is a wonderful opportunity for writers & the number of genres being covered is amazing too.

3 cheers to the Caferati organising team.

Would a short play be accepted for the Open Book Pitch? Or does it only have to bea novel? It's about 5000+ words.

[...] Open Book Pitch This is a new idea, and Caferati’s most ambitious. And this despite the fact that there are no guaranteed winners. The Open Book Pitch lets writers submit pitches to publishers and literary agents. (Some of the biggest names in Indian publishing including Penguin India, HarperCollins, and Random House India are signed up, as are some of the exciting newer ones like Siyahi.) The process is anonymous both ways: The writers do not have direct access to the talent scouts from the publishers and agents, and the scouts do not see any personally identifying information until they see something they like. The prize? A chance to be published. [...]
