The workshop is an introduction to freelance journalism and will cover, broadly, the following areas:
What a freelance writer does
What makes a good story, and how to find and sell stories
How to identify markets
How to write successful pitches, and chase them
How to deal with editors
How to deal with rejection
How to negotiate pay and rights
How to write for the foreign media
By the end of the workshop participants should be able to identify good stories and sell them to the right markets write successful pitches and approach editors with confidence.

Kavitha Rao has been a freelance writer for 11 years, and writes on books, culture, current affairs, education and lifestyles. Her work has appeared in The Guardian, the South China Morning Post, Asiaweek, Womensenews, the Far Eastern Economic Review, Mint and several others. 2. A line or two about your previous experience in this area.
3. A line or two about what you’re looking for from this workshop, and whether you are a beginner or are already writing. This will help us structure the workshop better.
4. Participants should send in a short (not more than 200 words) summary of a story idea that they would like to pitch to a magazine/newspaper. It should mention the publication they want to pitch to, and include a short bio of themselves, and why they should be the ones to write this story.
There are only 20 seats available. Please register early!
Please inform us well in time if you need to drop out, so we can free the seat for someone else.
