Once Upon a Time - Writing for Children (Workshops - Writing)

Date: Saturday, 2nd February (Session 1), Sunday 3rd February (Session 2)
Time: 14:30 – 16:30 (both days)
Venue: Bombay Natural History Society, Auditorium
Conducted by: Jane Bhandari and Marilyn Noronha

The goal here is to teach adults how to translate their ideas, thoughts and feelings into writing that appeals to children. This workshop will primarily be concerned with writing in prose.

Session 1: “Last night I dreamed I went to Manderley.”
Introducing the basic elements of good story-telling.
Practical applications: creating credible characters.

Session 2: Weaving the plot.
Creating a story and bringing it to a satisfying conclusion.
Practical applications: working in groups to present a short story.

Jane Bhandari, painter and poet, has lived in India for four decades . She is the author of two collections of poetry: Single Bed and Aquarius. She has also written two children’s books, The Round Square Chapatti and The Long Thin Jungle. Her poetry has appeared in Fulcrum, Atlas, and TLM, and on on-line sites. It has also been selected by Sahitya Akademi for their forthcoming anthology of women’s poetry. A third collection of poems and a novel are in progress.

Marilyn Noronha has returned to her first love, teaching, after working for twenty-three years in a nationalised bank. She teaches Music and Creative Writing. Her poems have been published in anthologies as well as national and international journals. She also writes short stories and plays for children. Several short stories have been published in magazines. Some of her plays have been performed on stage, radio and television. Her first collection of poems, Different Faces, was published by Allied Publishers. Her writing has been included in Confronting Love (Penguin), an anthology of love poems, and has been selected by Sahitya Academy for their anthology of women’s poetry, to be published in the near future.

There are only 20 seats available. Please register early!

Please inform us well in time if you need to drop out, so we can free the seat for someone else.

Please make sure you are at the workshop venue 15 minutes before the posted start time.

We will inform all registered participants about any changes in schedules. But please keep an eye on this post as well for any changes.

hi i m very much interested in this workshopn wud like to know if d short story is mandatory fr registration? i m very keen since i work with kids always n storytell..stories written by others i wud like to atempt writing myself n wud like inputs to do same..pease do get back on my query….ameetha..if story nt mandatory i will reegister immediately..
