The Open Screen

15 minutes each day, for those who mix the word with the visual arts.

Each Open Screen session will have 6 slots of up to 2 minutes each.
Each day’s Open Screen will begin with a short audio-visual presentation of the work of a well-known writer which will “bless the screen.” We hope to conclude each session with brief comments on the day’s screenings by one of the well-known writers present.

The rules:
The words:
There is no restriction on collaboration. We would prefer that the texts used be your original work. If not, the text that anchors your presentation must be out of copyright or you must have permission to use it from the owner of that copyright.
The visual:
You can use plain text slides, your own, original photographs, live action or animation
The audio:
The text and visuals can be accompanied by (again, original) voice recordings, music or sound effects.
Genres:
No restriction. Poetry, speeches, fiction, commentary, letters to the editor.
Prohibited:
Foul language, explicit sexual imagery, slander / libel.

If you want a slot:

Submissions only in mpeg or avi format, please. Films must be not more than two minutes long, natch.

Submit via email to kalaghoda DOT opendesk AT gmail DOT com, with the subject line “Open Screen.”

There’s a povisional deadline: midnight, 3rd February. But we may extend that by a few days, depending on the number of submissions we get.

If the time-slots are over-booked, the Open Desk will use its discretion to decide what goes on screen. The Open Desk retains the right to refuse to screen a particular submission without giving any explanations to its creators.

There are no prizes, except the opportunity to show your work to an audience, and earn its acclaim.

You will not be reimbursed expenses, and will not be paid any fee or honorarium. You retain ownership of your work, but by submitting it, you give the Kala Ghoda Association and Caferati the right to display your work at the David Sassoon Library and on their websites, should they so choose, with attribution to you and your collaborators, if any.

Update (12th January): The Open Screen submissions will be screened every day of the Festival (except February 9th and 10th), at the David Sassoon Library Garden, from 21:15 to 21:30.
